Course Overview

Enhance or start your maritime career with the STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FP&FF) course.

This essential training is part of the Basic Safety Training (BST) program required by the STCW 2010 Manila amendments. STCW FP&FF (STCW Code A-VI/1-2) equips you with critical skills to prevent and fight fires onboard, ensuring the safety of both the crew and vessel.

The course module is part of the mandatory STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) course, which also includes:

  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST) – IMO Code A-VI/1-1
  • STCW Elementary First Aid (EFA) – IMO Code A-VI/1-3
  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) – IMO Code A-VI/1-4
  • STCW Proficiency in Security Awareness (PSA) (optional) – IMO Code A-VI/6-1

If you hold an expired STCW BST certificate, you must attend the STCW Refresher FP&FF course.

This course consists of 1 day theory training in our classroom covering subjects as: 

  • Shipboard fire fighting organization
  • Elements of fire and explosion
  • Fire and smoke detection
  • Types and sources of ignition
  • Actions to be taken on a ship
  • Classification of Fire
  • Theory exam
  • The second course day trainees will fight and extinguish actual fires using personal equipment, practical instruction taught by licensed and certified fire fighting professionals. See below:

Our learning objectives during the practical day: 

  • Use various types of fire extinguishers
  • Use SCBA
  • Extinguish smaller and extensive fires
  • Fight Fire in smoke-filled enclosed space wearing SCBA
  • Extinguish fire in a room with fire and heavy smoke
  • Extinguish oil fire
  • Extinguish fire in a smoke-filled space wearing SCBA
  • Total course duration is two days

The transfer from our office location to the practical fire-fighting training facility is organized by us and included in our fees.

  • STCW BST Certificates of Proficiency 
  • Access to safety and training equipment (SCBA, fire extinguishers etc.) for practical exercises

Entry Requirements: 

  • Physical Fitness: 
    Candidates must be capable of rigorous physical activity during practical sessions, including fire-fighting drills that involve high temperatures, darkened enclosed spaces, and physical exertion.
  • Medical or Health Declaration: 
    A valid medical certificate or health declaration is required to ensure candidates are fit for the demanding nature of the course.
  • Minimum Age Requirement: 
    Candidates must be at least 16 years old to enroll.
  • ID or Passport: 
    A valid form of identification (ID or passport) is required for registration and certification purposes.

Our Certification:

  • STCW Certificates of Proficiency: 
    After successful completion, we issue both a hard copy and a digital copy of the STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) Certificates of Proficiency.
  • MOEI/FMA Accreditation: 
    Our training institute is fully accredited by the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure (MOEI) and the Federal Maritime Authority (FMA) of the U.A.E., ensuring compliance with the highest maritime training standards.
  • Compliance with STCW 78 as amended (including 2010 amendments): 
    Our courses adhere to the latest amendments of the STCW 78 Convention, including the 2010 Manila Amendments, which set global standards for seafarer safety training.
  • International Recognition: 
    Our STCW certification is internationally recognized, allowing candidates to work on yachts, commercial vessels, and cruise liners worldwide. However, candidates should always verify acceptance with their flag state, employer, or relevant authority.
  • Course Validity: 
    The STCW BST Certificate is valid for five years, after which refresher training is required to maintain compliance.

Course Dates

STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FP&FF) is a core module (A-VI/1-2) included in the STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) week. 

Single modules can only be booked on a standby basis.
