The IYT Dhow Cruise Master Inland course is available for candidates with at least one year of experience as a dhow captain.

This course is recognized by the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) for the issuance of the Dubai Marine Driving License for operating dhows in inland waterways of Dubai.

Entry Requirements

To obtain the IYT Dhow Cruise Master Inland qualification, candidates must complete the following:

Theory Component (2 Days / 12 Hours)

An intensive two-day theory course covering essential maritime knowledge, including:

Safety procedures and emergency protocols
Rules of the road at sea
Inland water signals and signs
Meteorology and understanding weather conditions
Buoyage systems and navigation aids
Knots and rope handling techniques
Crowd and crisis management
Introduction to VHF radio communication
Theory exam on the second day

Practical Component (1 Day / 6 Hours)

The practical course and exam are conducted on the candidate’s company dhow, focusing on essential skills such as:

Vessel inspection and check-out procedures
Docking and rope work
Maneuvering in confined areas
Man Overboard (MOB) recovery techniques
Crew communication and leadership
Crisis management and emergency response

Entry Requirements

One year previous experience as captain of a Dhow (proof required) or employed as a captain of a Dhow.
Valid STCW BST certificate
IYT Marine Communications VHF SRC or other VHF SRC or GMDSS ROC
