STCW 2010 Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention

About this course

Two day fire prevention and fire fighting module which is instructed in compliance to STCW Code A - VI/1-2 including shipboard fire fighting organization, the elements of fire and explosion, types of ignition, fire and smoke detection, breathing apparatus use and automatic alarm system familiarization.

Trainees will fight and extinguish actual fires using personal equipment, practical instruction taught by licensed and certified fire fighting professionals. It takes two days to complete and is followed by an exam.

General Overview

Overview of shipboard fire-fighting organization and initial actions to take in the event of a fire emergency

Elements of Fire

Elements of fire and explosion including types and sources of ignition, flammable materials, fire hazards and spread of fire

Fire Prevention

Methods for prevention and vigilance of fire hazards

Fire Detection Systems

Familiarization of common shipboard fire and smoke detection systems

Fixed Systems

Familiarization of fixed fire-fighting systems

General Fire Fighting

Familiarization of common shipboard fire-fighting equipment and protective gear

Practical Fire Fighting

Practical application of fire-fighting principles including using protective equipment and extinguishing a fire
