There are four elements of the Basic Safety Training course - incl. Manila STCW 2010 amendments. STCW 2010 requires all seafarers to receive basic safety training in accordance with section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.
Although it is not a mandatory part of the basic safety training programme, we have included optionally the Proficiency in Maritime Security Awareness course module:
1. STCW 2010 Personal Survival Techniques
2. STCW 2010 Elementary First Aid
3. STCW 2010 Elementary Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
4. STCW 2010 Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities as revised by the 2010 Manila Amendment
5. STCW 2010 Proficiency in Maritime Security Awareness
WHY IS THE COURSE CONDUCTED IN 6 DAYS AND NOT IN 5 DAYS?
The changes in the Manila STCW 2010 amendments have increased the duration of the STCW Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities from a half day course to one day and we include optionally the new half day module STCW Proficiency in Maritime Security Awareness.
Security Awareness Training must be undertaken by all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships which are required to comply with the ISPS Code.

WHERE IS THE STCW 2010 PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES TRAINING TAKING PLACE?
The STCW 2010 Personal Survival Techniques course is a combination of theory in the classroom and practical Sea Survival Training. For the practical training we do not use a swimming pool but our 2 training vessels and anchor in the lagoon. This creates an excellent forum for practical sea survival and meet the IMO requirements for STCW Personal Survival techniques. The provision of a demountable Aluminium platform not less than 2 metres bolted to the stern of “MY Pearl” gives the students the feeling for a real emergency situation at sea.
I CAN'T SWIM, CAN I ATTEND THE STCW PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES TRAINING MODULE?
Yes, non Swimmers may participate but must complete all the practical exercises wearing a life jacket. We have 4 instructors on 2 vessels always on alert during the entire PST practical training activities.
