One of the most beautiful yacht charter destinations in the Caribbean, the Virgin Islands are located east of Puerto Rico between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean seas. Comprised of about 60 lush, mostly volcanic islands, the Virgin Islands are named after the legend of St. Ursula and her 11,000 martyred virgins. Christopher Columbus reminded of the legend by the profusion of peaks of the islands named them thus.

The three large islands to the west and south of the group, St Thomas, St John and St Croix, form the US Virgin Islands, the counterpart to the far less developed British Virgin Islands. The US VI has developed as a major tourist destination that provides a paradise for vacationers. Though less developed, the BVI is the main destination for most yacht charter vacations and sailing holidays.
